Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the newly appointed Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Port Command, has unveiled his strategy to meet and surpass the revenue target set by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Onyeka revealed that his focus will be on facilitating legitimate trade and businesses, ensuring 100% examination of all imports, and energizing his officers to key into his vision .
“I’ll facilitate trade, but it has to be legitimate trade. That’s what I feel I should do in the strict sense,” Onyeka said, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and accountability.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to repay the CGC’s trust.
Onyeka’s strategy includes:
*Trade Facilitation*: Ensuring that legitimate trade and businesses are facilitated, while preventing smuggling and other illicit activities.
100% Examination: Conducting thorough examinations of all imports to ensure compliance with customs regulations.
Officer Engagement: Energizing his officers to key into his vision and work towards achieving the revenue target.
Collaboration: Working closely with relevant units, including the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) and Valuation Unit, to ensure synergy and efficiency.
The Tin Can Customs Command has a reputation for excellence, having surpassed its revenue target in 2024. Onyeka aims to build on this success and take the command to even greater heights .
