In a bid to put an end to the lingering controversy surrounding the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN), the Maritime Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has taken the initiative to organize a roundtable discussion.
The event, scheduled to take place on February 26, 2025, at the MARAN International Press Center in Apapa, aims to bring together key stakeholders to dissect the issues and proffer lasting solutions.
The roundtable will feature insightful addresses from prominent stakeholders, including Dr. Eugene Nweke of the Sea Empowerment and Research Center (SEREC) and Dr. Segun Musa, Managing Director of Widescope Nigeria Limited.
Other critical stakeholders expected to attend include Dr. Alban Igwe of the Importers Association of Nigeria.
Two government agencies, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), will also deliver papers on the prospects and challenges of the proposed ICTN from their respective perspectives.
According to Mr. Godfrey Bivbere, President of MARAN, the roundtable is a necessary step towards resolving the controversy surrounding the ICTN.
“The maritime industry has been polarized by this issue, and it’s time for us to come together and find a way forward,” he noted.
The event is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and find common ground.
By doing so, MARAN hopes to facilitate a resolution to the ICTN controversy and pave the way for the development of the maritime sector, which is critical to the nation’s economy.
