Stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime industry converged at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Thursday, February 20, 2025, to discuss and collaborate on reviving the Nigerian Maritime Expo (NIMAREX).
The event aims to bring together government agencies, shipowners, master mariners, lawyers, journalists, and researchers to showcase the enormous potentials of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
Led by Former Chairman of the Indigenous Shipowners Association of Nigeria (ISAN), Funmi Folorunsho, the planning committee includes notable stakeholders such as Chairman of the Ports Consultative Forum, Bolaji Sunmola, and Captain Ebubeogu Iheanacho.
The committee emphasized the need for collaboration to promote Nigeria’s maritime industry, which accounts for 92% of global trade and 70-80% of cargoes destined for Africa.
The President of LCCI, Gabriel Idahosa, and Director-General, Dr. Chinyere Almonah, recognized the importance of Nigeria’s maritime industry to the country’s growth and development. Idahosa committed to delivering a paper at NIMAREX 2025 and assured that LCCI would utilize the event to sensitize stakeholders on the need to make Nigeria a maritime nation.
Participants urged stakeholders to work synergistically to ensure the conference’s success. The Federal Government was also advised to implement decisions taken at NIMAREX 2024 to attract foreign and local investment, fast-track development in the maritime sector, and promote Nigeria as a maritime nation.
NIMAREX is an annual event that brings together local and international operators to showcase products, new technologies, services, and business opportunities in the maritime sector.
