TheNigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat smuggling and secure the nation’s borders.
In two separate operations in Ogun and Ondo states, the unit seized 15 assorted rifles, 4,841 rounds of live ammunition, and two industrial drones worth N377.1 million.
Seized Items
– *Firearms:* 14 JOJEF Magnum semi-automatic firearms (Italian-made) and 1 Mossberg pump-action shotgun (US-made)
– *Ammunition:* 4,841 rounds of live ammunition
– *Drones:* 2 industrial drones without proper documentation
– *Other Items:* 2 cartons of Danu Spaghetti and bales of used clothing
Operations Details
The seizures were made on August 7 and 9, 2025, during coordinated enforcement operations.
On August 7, a patrol team intercepted a Nissan Almera vehicle suspected of conveying prohibited items via the Ilara bush paths near the Ogun border.
The occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush, leaving behind the seized items. Two days later, another patrol team intercepted a Volkswagen Sprinter bus carrying two industrial drones packed inside a wooden box along the Akure-Ore axis in Ondo state .
Commitment to Border Security
Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized the Service’s commitment to disrupting the activities of non-state actors and safeguarding national security.
He warned that importing arms, ammunition, or drones without proper documentation would be met with swift and decisive action .
Inter-Agency Collaboration
The seized arms and ammunition were handed over to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) for further investigation and possible prosecution, highlighting the NCS’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration .
