The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is facing challenges in its membership drive due to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) delaying the upload of the party’s current leadership to the commission’s website.
According to NNPP Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, this delay is affecting the party’s electronic registration process, which is required for participation in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s internal conflict with the Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso-led group has contributed to the slow membership drive.
Aniebonam stated that INEC has yet to obey a court order recognizing the Agbo Major-led National Working Committee of the NNPP.
This has led to NNPP not fielding candidates in some past elections, causing embarrassment and skepticism among members.
Despite these challenges, the NNPP portal is open for registration, and Aniebonam urged stakeholders to be patient, expressing optimism that INEC will resolve the issue.
