All roads will lead to Rockview Hotel, Apapa, on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, as the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria, MARAN, inaugurates its newly elected Executive Council and charts a renewed course for responsible journalism in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The inauguration, themed *”Upholding Ethical Journalism for Maritime Development”*, is expected to draw the who’s who of shipping, logistics, security and media. Heads of key regulatory agencies and presidents of major maritime associations have confirmed attendance for the 10:00 a.m. ceremony.
*Who Will Be There*
MASPAN President, Emmanuel Maiguwa Gankino, will chair the occasion. Renowned PR and event management expert Bolaji Abimbola will deliver the keynote address.
Dignitaries expected include:
1. *Dr. Dayo Mobereola* – Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA
2. *Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho* – Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA
3. *Barr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima* – Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC

Chief executives of maritime agencies, terminal operators, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders across the maritime value chain will also be in attendance.

Speaking ahead of the event, MARAN President, Comrade Oluyinka Onigbinde, described the inauguration as a defining moment for the association.
“This new executive will focus on strengthening MARAN through capacity building, constructive engagement, and strict adherence to ethical standards,” he said. “Responsible journalism remains critical to transparency, accountability and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s maritime industry and our blue economy aspirations.”
With industry leaders, regulators and media practitioners under one roof, the event signals a push to deepen professionalism and credibility in maritime reporting at a time when the sector’s contribution to national revenue and trade is under global spotlight.
