The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has commenced pilot deployment of its new Management Information System, MIS, File Tracker at the PTML Area Command as part of efforts to digitize internal administrative processes and improve efficiency.
The launch was announced on Monday at PTML, with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, describing the platform as a key step in the Service’s broader modernization agenda.
Represented by Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT/Modernization, DCG Oluyomi Adebakin, the CGC said the initiative is designed to deepen the use of technology for personnel administration and speed up documentation.
*Single Platform for Administrative Processes*
According to DCG Adebakin, the MIS File Tracker is an Enterprise Platform that functions as a Single Sign-On, SSO, application.
It enables one unified data set to be used across all departments for administrative purposes.
Key functions on the platform include:
*File Tracking*
*Leave and Pass Applications*
*Duty Roster*
*Internal Staff Orders*
*Nominal Roll*
*Feedback Channels* for suggestions on modifications and improvements
DCG Adebakin, who spearheaded other NCS digital projects including the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System, said the new tool aligns with global best practices and will enhance transparency, reduce manual work, and support data-driven decision-making.
She added that deploying the system at PTML reinforces the command’s reputation as a hub for innovation within the Service.
*PTML as Pilot Command*
PTML Area Command is regarded as one of the most technologically advanced commands in the NCS.
It has previously served as the pilot location for major projects such as the Unified Customs Management System, UCMS, also known as B’Odogwu.
Acting Controller of PTML, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, said the command is positioned to successfully implement the rollout and serve as a model for other commands.
“We will justify the confidence reposed in us,” DC Miko stated. He noted that the command is already leveraging technology-backed trade facilitation initiatives and is working to reduce cargo clearance time for compliant RoRo cargoes from two hours to one hour.
DC Miko described the MIS File Tracker as “a bold step towards sustaining NCS’ position as a leading Customs administration in Africa,” and assured that PTML will see the project through from pilot to full implementation.
The NCS said feedback from officers during the pilot phase will inform further upgrades before wider deployment across other commands.
The press release was Signed by CSC AT Abubakar the Public Relations Officer for PTML Command Area Controller.
