Election Period Alert

At Police Headquarters Ikeja where he was received by Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, Afeni said FOU responsibilities go beyond border security to protecting national interests.

“We know crime rates often increase as country approaches election period, as some people may attempt to take advantage to perpetrate illicit activities capable of causing crises during elections. Therefore, we are here to call for closer synergy so that these bad elements do not have their way,” Afeni said.

He stressed no agency can succeed in isolation, acknowledging robust intelligence-gathering capacity of Police and need for sustained cooperation.

In response, CP Fatai described the visit as welcome practice that has helped both agencies achieve remarkable results.

“In Lagos, we have very strong and robust relationship with all security agencies, notwithstanding huge population of the state,” Fatai said.
