Tin Can Customs Rejects $54,300 Bribe Intercepts 40ft Containers laden with Illicit Drugs

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Command has arrested an importer Boniface Ike, for offering $54,330 (N50m) bribe to officers of the Tin-Can Island Command of the Service over the seizure of two 40ft containers laden with illicit  drugs that was  imported into the country from India. The Nigeria Customs Service in its bid for the reformation of “New Customs” has taken a decision of  Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) during the 6th management meeting of the service on 23rd of August 2023. According to the National Public Relations Officer of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, the Advance Ruling is a concept wherein the Customs Administration provides a written decision upon request from the importer concerning valuation, tariff classification, or origin of goods before they are imported.
