The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 12 containers at the Apapa Port Command containing expired and controlled pharmaceutical products worth N1.8 billion. The Comptroller-General of Customs, in a press briefing, revealed that the seizures included tramadol, codeine, and other regulated medical items without the required National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) number. The expired pharmaceutical products, if allowed to exit the ports, would have undermined national security by fueling criminal activities. His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the confirmation of the appointment of  Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR) as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service. This information was contained in the press statement released to the media  by the Willie Bassey Director of Information for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. According to the letter, the appointment takes effect from 19th October, 2023 and his tenure is in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR). The President  tasks him to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.
