The President of Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA Nigeria), Mrs. Theodora Nwaeze, has commended the dedication and resilience of maritime professionals, especially women, as Nigeria marks Workers’ Day and the start of May.
In a statement issued to members, partners, and stakeholders, Nwaeze described May as a month of renewed opportunity and a time to honour the “invaluable contributions of workers across all sectors.”
“I celebrate every woman and professional who continues to demonstrate excellence, commitment, and strength in advancing not only their careers but also the growth and sustainability of the maritime industry and the blue economy,” she said.
Nwaeze noted that women in maritime remain a driving force for a more inclusive and innovative industry. “Your professionalism, courage, and determination continue to break barriers and set new standards of excellence. You are seen, you are valued, and your impact is deeply appreciated,” she added.
She reaffirmed WIMA Nigeria’s commitment to its core pillars of Empowerment, Innovation, Collaboration, and National Visibility, pledging to sustain platforms that support growth, strengthen partnerships, and amplify women’s voices across the sector.
The WIMA President urged industry players to embrace May with “renewed focus, discipline, and optimism,” calling for stronger networks and meaningful contributions to both the maritime sector and society.
“On this Workers’ Day, and throughout the month of May, I wish you all continued success, good health, fulfillment, and greater achievements,” Nwaeze stated.
She signed off with the maritime farewell: Fair winds and steady seas.
