The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Idiroko Command has generated the total sum of N30,408,276.00 as revenue, through baggage assessment and auction sales of seized petroleum products from the 1st to 31st October . The month when compared to the corresponding period of year 2022, there is a significant increase of N24,921,200.00, which is over 400% increment.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) in charge of the command Ahmad Bello Shuaibu issued out the information during a press briefing that was organized on the 22nd of November 2023 at the command secretariat in Idiroko Ogun State .
Shuaibu applauded the efforts of his team towards the massive achievement of the month in view to their unwavering commitment to trade facilitation and robust stakeholders’ engagement.
According to Him, “the Command has resolved to remain resolute in anti-smuggling fight which has enabled the Command to record a total seizure of 122 items comprising 901 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Marijuana or Indian hemp; 500 pieces of foreign-used Pneumatic Tyres, commonly known as Tokunbo.
Similarly listed among the seizures, are 23 units of used vehicles as means of conveying prohibited goods and 5 foreign used vehicles commonly known as Tokunbo; and 4,684 bags of foreign parboiled rice in 50kg each, which is an equivalence of 8 trailers load, among others.
He also noted that the persistent seizure of Cannabis Sativa, Foreign used Pneumatic tyres and other dangerous goods, is a testimony of the Command’s relentless efforts and resilience in preventing the teeming youth from harmful substances which could either truncate or render their lives useless.
However he said that as a proof of the concern in safeguarding the motorists from road mishap which could terminate their lives or subject them to permanent disability.
He assured that the Command is determined to make the society a safe place to live with peace of mind and an enabling environment for our businesses to thrive.
He attributed the success story in the Duty Paid Value (DPV) that stood at N398,470,687.00, to the enabling working atmosphere created by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his management team.
He announced the delivery of 8 Toyota Land Cruiser trucks, provided by the CGC to enhance anti-smuggling operations and Other factors responsible for the achievements as the strategic deployment of our gallant Officers and Men, deployment of intelligence and collaborative efforts of the sister agencies, and other critical stakeholders.
He expressed gratitude towards the warm reception given to him during his familiarization tour but pleaded that stakeholders should improve on the existing synergy and collaboration with critical stakeholders in the State.
He concluded by reassuring the general public of his open door policy that accommodate the support of patriotic Nigerians and the command’s unwavering dedication in discharging the statutory responsibility with due diligence and utmost sense of patriotism, but warned smugglers to steer clear of smuggling activities or face the consequences.
