The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Kontz Engineering Limited, Dr. Mustapha Kazeem Lusty, has revealed that maintaining quality and adding value to their services has made business tough for the company in the Nigerian security engineering industry.
In an exclusive interview with Eavesdropper Online Dr. Lusty noted that while business has been good, the company’s refusal to compromise on standards has affected some business opportunities.
“We have opportunities, but there are some things we cannot compromise about. We have to fight price and fight competition,” he said.
Dr. Lusty explained that the company often encounters challenges with customers who have little knowledge of security engineering and are looking for cheap options.
However, he maintained that Kontz Engineering Limited has built a brand and reputation for quality, despite having higher prices.
“Some people complain about our price being high, but they end up introducing new customers to us. It’s been worthwhile because it shows that somebody is appreciating what we are doing,” he said.
Dr. Lusty also noted that security is a luxury and that many people are unwilling to protect their assets. He emphasized the need for a combination of technology, human resources, and assets to ensure effective security.
He bemoaned the lack of knowledge in the industry, with many security professionals having little or no knowledge of technology.
Dr. Lusty stressed that Nigeria has everything needed to survive, but the question is whether the people are willing and whether the decision-makers have the knowledge to utilize local technology to solve security problems.
“I don’t think we don’t know what we have. I just think that we probably don’t have the belief in ourselves,” he said.
He emphasized the need for a change in mindset and the use of technology to arrest crime and reduce the chance of escape.
“It is possible and even available for private organizations, so why can’t it go to the state level?” he asked.
