Dr. Segun Musa, Deputy National President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), has strongly criticized the Nigerian rail sector’s investment, stating that it has been largely wasted due to poor planning and misplaced priorities.
Speaking at a roundtable organized by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), Musa emphasized that the country’s transportation systems, particularly rail, should have focused on cargo movement rather than passenger services to truly impact the economy.
Musa argued that prioritizing cargo transport would have generated sufficient income to repay investments, but instead, the sector remains financially unsustainable due to a focus on passenger services.
He also highlighted issues with road transport, describing it as unregulated and chaotic, and the aviation sector, which he described as over-regulated but poorly managed.
Musa’s comments call for a fundamental rethinking of Nigeria’s transportation strategy, particularly in the rail sector.
