The Federal Government has pledged to boost investments in cutting-edge technologies and alternative fuels to ensure secure shipping operations, according to Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
At the World Maritime Day 2024 celebration in Lagos, themed “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” Oyetola emphasized the need to upgrade facilities and build capacity for Nigeria to remain competitive in global seaborne trade.
Nigeria has consistently aligned its regulatory framework with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, reinforcing its commitment to maritime safety.
The Ministry is embracing emerging technologies, digitalization, and innovation to drive growth, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Legislators and industry leaders, including Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun and Dr. Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the maritime industry through legislation and sustainable practices.
The event featured awards, cash prizes, and scholarships for students who wrote articles on the Blue Economy, sponsored by NIMASA.
