As the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 29) unfolds in Baku, Azerbaijan, Captain Warredi Enisuoh, a leading carbon credit expert in Nigeria, has highlighted the Niger Delta’s potential to combat climate change through biological sequestration of greenhouse gas emissions.
Speaking on Arise Television, Enisuoh, Executive Director of Operations and Technical Services at Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL), emphasized the region’s potential despite environmental degradation from oil exploration and waste management challenges.
“The Niger Delta has vast opportunities for carbon credits, and it’s imperative we utilize them,” Enisuoh stressed. “We’re partnering with government agencies and stakeholders to achieve this goal.”
Enisuoh outlined plans to:
1. Correlate images to identify areas for cleanup and biological sequestration.
2. Educate communities on environmental conservation.
3. Partner with companies like Oxytane to obtain data and register sequestration processes.
4. Utilize drones to collect data and convert it into carbon credits.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration with government agencies, including NESREA, NOSDRA, and the Nigerian Climate Change Commission.
“With the current government’s commitment, I believe we can achieve significant progress in combating climate change,” Enisuoh concluded.
