The Lagos Free Trade Zone Command, Lekki, celebrated International Customs Day and honored newly promoted officers on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
The ceremony was attended by sister government agencies, key stakeholders, families, and friends of the promoted officers.
Comptroller Olanrewaju Abdul Wahab Olumoh, Customs Area Controller, highlighted the significance of International Customs Day, celebrated annually on January 26.
He noted that the day recognizes the dedicated Customs workforce and highlights the role of Customs administrations in achieving the goals of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
The LFTZ Command has been working to support the drives of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) by leveraging existing provisions to advance the cause of the service.
This includes promoting trade and investment for national economic growth and enhancing shared prosperity between Nigeria, investors, and international trading partners .
Comptroller Olumoh praised the CGC for his enormous support in boosting productivity and operational efficiency.
He highlighted the command’s use of fixed, mobile, and gantry scanners, which has significantly reduced clearance time and increased efficiency.
The command has also received unwavering support from the CGC and Management Team, including residential buildings, a coastal bus, and opportunities for officers to participate in international Customs programs
Comptroller Olumoh emphasized the importance of collaboration with other agencies to ensure security.
The command successfully intercepted three containers of illicit drugs and unauthorized pharmaceutical products last year.
The command surpassed its revenue target of 144 billion Naira by generating 358 billion Naira last year. Comptroller Olumoh attributed this success to the efficiency of the individual personnel and the inspiring leadership of the CGC.
The newly promoted officers were urged to see their elevation as a call to service and to renew their commitment to the Nigeria Customs Service.
