The Nigeria Customs Service has made a significant bust at the Apapa Port, intercepting six containers of unregistered pharmaceuticals worth a staggering N3.2 billion. This recent seizure is part of a broader effort to protect Nigerians from potentially life-threatening imports.
The Seized Containers:
Category 1:Two containers, SUDU 8685733 and MRSU 4846204, were found with 1,698 RTPL CSC Cough syrup with codeine and 1,690 cartons of codeine syrup, respectively, cleverly concealed in water closets and toilet seats, with a street value of N2,710,400.
Category 2:Containers ONEU 1153150 and MRSU 3258823 contained unregistered pharmaceuticals, including Globatin anti-marks, Clobetasol cream, Rabeprazole, and Zahifranil tablets, falsely declared as truck tires and kitchen wares.
Category 3:Container MRKU 0904594 had two stolen vehicles from Canada, a 2024 Lexus RX 450 and a 2023 Lexus RX 350, disguised as food items, while container SEKU 4716830 had 390 bales of used clothing, violating import prohibition laws ¹.
The Significance:
Comptroller Babatunde Olomu emphasized that the Nigeria Customs Service owes Nigerians a duty to protect them from harmful imports.
With seizures worth N3,247,427,969, this interception showcases the service’s commitment to facilitating trade while safeguarding public health.
Revenue and Security:
The Apapa Command has generated N1.094 trillion in revenue as of May 21, 2025, and has made significant strides in regulatory enforcement, including intercepting expired pharmaceuticals, armored cables, and restricted security gadgets.
