The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun I Area Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against smuggling, seizing contraband goods worth over N1.4 billion along the Idiroko border.
The seizures, made over the past six weeks, include a luxury Rolls-Royce vehicle, 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 50 sacks and 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, 105 used tyres, 21 bales of second-hand clothing, and 6,400 litres of petrol.
A Heavy Blow to Smugglers
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, disclosed that the seizures dealt a heavy economic blow to smugglers while safeguarding the nation’s economy and security.
The Duty Paid Value of the seized items is N1,401,531,923.95, a significant loss to smugglers but a great gain to Nigeria’s economy and security.
Revenue Increase
Beyond anti-smuggling operations, the Command recorded a 27.47% revenue increase, generating N45,054,191 in July 2025, compared to N35,327,852 in July 2024.
This achievement demonstrates the Command’s commitment to revenue collection and economic protection.
The Command formally handed over 1,000kg of cannabis to the NDLEA Idiroko Special Command for further investigation.
The NDLEA Area Commander, Ekundayo Williams, applauded Customs for its sustained synergy and pledged to continue working together to rid Idiroko and its environs of drug trafficking.
