The Nigerian Ports Authority bows in gratitude to God and in solemn remembrance of Paul Ikherovba Erakhifu, fondly known as “Texas,” who passed to glory on Friday, May 1, 2026.
From his appointment on October 17, 1994, as a junior staff on Grade Level 3, Texas rose through diligence, discipline, and determination to become a senior officer on Grade Level 13.
His career at the NPA was marked by sterling contributions, professionalism, and an indelible impact on colleagues and the Authority at large.
While we mourn his transition, we also give thanks to God for a life well lived. Texas was celebrated for his uncommon commitment to photography and his infectious sense of humor, often greeting colleagues with his signature lines,
“You have made my day” and “Powerful.” He lived true to those words, making his days on earth count with grace, humility, and service.
A lifelong learner, he earned a BA in Literature in 2005, an MA in International Relations in 2012, and an MSc in Mass Communication.
To sharpen his craft, he trained at the London Film Academy, London Academy of Media, Film & Television, and the Texas School of Photography in the U.S., a country whose city inspired his beloved nickname.
Texas’s diligence took him before leaders both at home and abroad. He represented the Authority on high-level engagements in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, the U.S., Japan, Ghana, Togo, Congo, Guinea, South Africa, and other nations, bringing honor to the NPA on the global stage.
Though his absence leaves a deep void, we take comfort in the words of James Wrubel: “No one truly dies who is remembered.” We remember
Texas for his kindness, his laughter, his mentorship, and his contribution to knowledge through two authored books that continue to light paths and lighten burdens.
The NPA family extends condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, and commits to honoring his legacy of service, excellence, and joy. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant all who mourn him the strength to bear the loss.
