The Customs Officers’ Wives Association, COWA PTML Chapter, ushered in a new era on Wednesday as Hajiya Nabila Nura Miko was formally inaugurated as Chairperson during a well-attended taking over ceremony at the PTML Command.

In her inaugural address, Hajiya Miko expressed gratitude to Almighty God and pledged to lead with humility and responsibility.

She lauded COWA National President Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi for her “visionary leadership” that continues to strengthen COWA chapters nationwide, and commended outgoing Chairperson Mrs. Ifeoluwa Anani for laying a solid foundation through impactful programmes.

“Her tenure’s impact is visible across all our programmes. I am committed to building on those achievements while breaking new ground for COWA objectives and the welfare of Customs officers’ wives,” Miko said.

*Building on a Strong Track Record*

Under the previous leadership, PTML Chapter executed several high-impact initiatives: International Women’s Day celebrations, “COWA Healthy Wife, Wealthy Life” sensitization workshops, Breast Cancer Awareness programmes,

End of Year outreach, participation in the Green Border Initiative School Adoption, and environmental sensitization lectures.

Hajiya Miko said her administration will sustain that momentum by focusing on three priority areas:

1. *Welfare* – Strengthening support systems for wives of officers, especially during challenging times

2. *Empowerment* – Expanding skills acquisition and financial independence programmes for members

3. *Community Service* – Deepening impact through health, education, and environmental projects

“I cannot do this alone. I solicit the cooperation, prayers, and support of every COWA PTML member, the Command Management, and all stakeholders. Together, we will move this Chapter to greater heights,” she added.

*Command Backs New Leadership*

PTML Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller N.I. Miko, who witnessed the ceremony, congratulated the new chairperson and described COWA’s role as “critical” to the Service.

“While we officers handle revenue collection, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling, you ensure our homes remain stable, peaceful, and productive. A stable home is the foundation of effective service delivery, and for that we remain grateful,” he stated.

He assured the Chapter of the Command’s full support with logistics, venues, and moral backing, and praised Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi’s national leadership.

The Controller prayed for wisdom, strength, and unity for the new executives, expressing optimism that the tenure would be marked by more achievements for PTML families.

With a renewed focus on welfare, skills, and community service, COWA PTML Chapter enters its new chapter with optimism and a clear roadmap to impact more families and communities around the port.
